Harvest high school - Loitokitok

is a high school with about 150 students aged 15 - 20 years. All the students are in dormitories and come either from Harvest School in Nairobi or from other schools in the area. The curriculum is in line with the general curriculum in Kenya's schools and students take standardized exams after four years of schooling.

Loitoktok, which is at the foot of Kilimanjaro, is mostly inhabited by Masai tribes, who are originally nomads but have also migrated from other tribes. Severe droughts, especially in the years 2000-2009, had serious consequences and killed a large part of the livestock. As a result, there is an unusually high level of poverty in the area and a great need for help and education. In addition, forced marriages and circumcision of young girls are common among Masai. The school has been working to counter this tradition since 2011 and makes it a condition that female circumcision is not allowed and the children are educated about the harmfulness of this act.

The Imburetin Primary school

is a primary school with 450 students. The school is a public school that serves the neighboring community and is run in partnership with the government. The school, started under a tree and does not yet have electricity. However, the hard work of the teachers and students meant a good performance in the national exams. To visit the school is an amazing experience.
